A Foggy Night on Charles Bridge

I wandered Prague for half the night, letting the city lead instead of a map.

By the time I reached Charles Bridge, the fog had settled in and the streetlights had turned everything a deep, glowing gold. The river moved slowly before me, smoothing out into reflections, and for a moment it felt like time had thinned. This was the exact mood I had been hoping to find.

Charles Bridge has been standing here since the early 1400s, built under the reign of Emperor Charles IV as the main crossing between the Old Town and Prague Castle. For centuries it carried kings, traders, armies, and pilgrims. Today it carries footsteps, quiet conversations, and the hum of a city that has learned how to live alongside its own history.

Prague is one of those rare cities where the past doesn’t feel preserved—it feels present. Gothic spires rise through the mist, baroque domes glow softly at night, and the Vltava River continues on as it always has. Walking here after dark, you can almost imagine every century layered on top of the next.

As I almost always do, I took my time composing this frame…letting the long exposure gather the light, the fog, and the movement of the water. I probably shot this 30 times. It wasn’t about capturing the bridge as much as capturing the feeling of being there—alone, unhurried, and completely absorbed.
