Marin Morning

Today I awakened in the blackness of the morning to chase the changing light around San Francisco with hope for fog to roll in and photograph the Golden Gate Bridge. After scouting one location in Presidio with a friend that lives in town we drove across the bridge to Kirby Point. I photographed as the light changed over the bay and it began to get a bit brighter, then continued down the road and stopped at the beach in Marin.

I spotted an area where the cliff tumbled into the sea, large rocks dotted the shoreline and as waves were breaking a light mist rose from the water. I decided that I wanted to shoot that dramatic scene that was playing out at the beach. I climbed onto a rock high enough that when the waves came in I wouldn’t get wet and the surf surrounded my perch. I set my tripod up and went to work, as dark clouds and rain moved in behind me I caught the mood of the morning in transition.
