Morning on the Oregon Coast
Before leaving the United States last year I had moved my few material possessions I had to California with the intention of landing in either Ventura or San Francisco when I came back. After much thought and reflection I decided that Seattle, Washington was where I wanted to spend some time. The fly fishing is amazing, the great outdoors offered plenty of amazing activities and photographic opportunities, and the culture of the city seemed to be exactly what I was looking for! This left one minor detail to attend to…my stuff was still in Los Angeles!
I booked a cheap one-way flight down to L.A. and rented a minivan to make the drive back up to Washington. With another opportunity to just go slow and let life happen I decided to take the slowest possible route up Hwy 101 along the California and Oregon coast. I had driven this coastline in California a few years back and was amazed at the cool small towns and breathtaking vistas but stopped near the Oregon border at Klamath; this time I would go all the way up the coast. As I usually do, when I get tired I stop along the roadside and sleep a while. This morning I pulled into a park off to the ocean side of the road around 3 am and slept until just before dawn, as I awoke I could hear the crash of the waves on the rocks and looked out at the coastline as the fog and mist lifted from the sea. As I perched with my camera and tripod on the cliff I greeted this morning with gratitude!
