The Sails
One of the landmarks of the world I have wanted to visit my entire life has been the Sydney Opera House. Earlier this year I finally got my chance, while there I took a guided tour of this wonder. I have always been drawn to the sails looking as if they were reaching for the sky and how the building itself was set out into the harbor. After taking the tour I have a greater admiration for this place, I never realized how revolutionary the design was. When Jørn Utzon imagined the opera house he didn’t know for certain it could be built, he simply sketched his idea on paper and submitted his entry into the competition. This was the first design of Jørn’s ever used! Being there and walking around outside I recognized the roof tiles and their geometric shapes, how the diamonds contrasted with the slow arch of the sails themselves. I do not consider myself an architectural photographer but because of my subject I had a desire to capture this uniqueness in a photograph.
